As a registered pharmacy, My Doctors Chemist is committed to protecting your privacy and personal information. We aim to provide a safe, efficient and hassle-free prescription service. We adhere to strict policies and procedures to ensure high levels of security and confidentiality.

Section 3.5 of the General Pharmaceutical Council’s Standards of Ethics, Conduct and Performance. This states:

“Respect and protect people’s dignity and privacy. Take all reasonable steps to prevent accidental disclosure or unauthorised access to confidential information. Never disclose confidential information without consent unless required to do so by the law or in exceptional circumstances.”

This policy states what we will do in order to achieve this. By giving your information to My Doctor’s Chemist, either on this website or a registration form provided by your GP, you are consenting for us to collect and use your personal information in accordance with this policy. Confidentiality

All personal information that My Doctors Chemist holds regarding patients is treated with the strictest confidence. All My Doctors Chemist staff, and anyone else with authorised access to patient information in accordance with this policy, is under a duty to keep the information confidential.

The information we collect

My Doctors Chemist collects information about patients who are registered to use our service in order to provide a personalised prescription service. This information includes:

  • Your name
  • Your email address
  • Your home address
  • Any additional addresses you have registered with us, for example a work address
  • Your telephone number – this enables us to contact you if needed, for example if there are any problems with your order
  • Any information relating to the safe supply of your prescriptions, in accordance with the Royal Pharmaceutical Society’s Code of Ethics. This may include, but is not limited to:
    • Details of the medication that has been prescribed by your doctor
    • Whether or not you pay for your NHS prescriptions
    • The reason you are exempt from payment, if applicable

We will not collect or store any specific clinical information about your medical problems other than that which can be inferred from prescription information and exemption declarations.

How we use patients’ information

All personal information will be recorded, used and protected in accordance with this privacy and confidentiality policy, our terms and conditions and UK law including data protection legislation and NHS Information Governance Standards. We will use it to provide the services that you request from My Doctors Chemist. This may include such uses as sending your prescriptions to you, contacting you regarding your order or storing your details for record keeping purposes.

We may also use non-identifiable information about our patients to improve our services. This may include market research, tracking and analysing the information on our website. Such information will be non-identifiable and used for statistical analysis.

My Doctors Chemist may occasionally use the information that we hold about you to notify you about important changes to our services, or other relevant information that may be of interest to you. If you do not wish to receive such information from My Doctor’s Chemist, please notify us at general@mydoctorschemist.com or tick the box on the registration form.

Disclosure of personal information

My Doctors Chemist may commission other companies to perform certain activities on our behalf, for example to provide the My Doctor’s Chemist website or send communications to patients. In cases where personnel from other companies have access to personal information, we will take steps to ensure that this is properly protected in accordance with this privacy and confidentiality policy.

We will never disclose patients’ personal information to third parties for marketing or promotional purposes without your express permission.

Cookies

If you are logged into the secure area of the My Doctors Chemist website then we will use a ‘cookie’ to manage your session. We also store cookies to provide website analytics data and statistics (e.g. how many people visit our website per week).

Your web browser stores these cookies on your computer’s hard drive. They contain no personal or identifiable information. Any ‘session’ cookies will be deleted when you log out of the secure area of the website.

Most web browsers automatically accept cookies, but you can change these settings to prevent them being stored. Please be aware that if you prevent the session cookie being stored, you won’t be able to login to the secure area of the website to order your prescriptions.

Data Protection Act

Medication Records are collected on our computers to help our pharmacists maintain a safe, effective service.

If you object to this please mention this to the pharmacist in charge by calling 01752 695554.

All information stored on our computers is kept confidential.
The patient may request a copy of information collected.

Security of electronic data

    • All sensitive patient and prescription data is encrypted before being stored to the database
    • The My Doctors Chemist website is hosted on a server in an ISO 27001 compliant data centre. These IT systems are protected by firewalls and have regular security updates. They also use modsec2, which is an application firewall to prevent infringements such as XSS attacks and SQL injection attacks
    • The website is backed up regularly to protect against data loss. Backups are stored securely in an off-site location for added protection
    • Disclosure checks have been carried out for all IT personnel who may have access to personal information

Security of paper information

Strict procedures are in place to protect our paper records against unauthorised access, loss or damage.

Suitability of personnel

All My Doctors Chemist personnel who have access to patient information are criminal records bureau checked to ensure their suitability.

We use a secure courier to deliver all orders placed on the My Doctors Chemist website.

Access to records

Under the Data Protection Act 1998, you have the right to access any personal information that we hold about you. Please contact us to request this information. If you find any inaccuracies or are unhappy with any of the information held about you then we will amend or delete it, as requested.
